Asemahle Vali

My name is Asemahle Vali and I'm from Komani in the  Eastern Cape. I am raised by my both parents. I am 16 years old. I am doing grade 11 at Iqhayiya Secondary School . I like playing soccer and I love food although I don't like cooking. I also love listening to loud music and street games with my friends. And I love wearing shorts. I believe in myself that one day I'm gonna be successful in life. I get angry when a person starts with me and I cry when there's something that upsets me but I don't hold grudges, I forgive. When I'm on my period I have moods and I even want to cry.

As a sportswoman my period has not only made me self conscious, but it has forced me to be ambitious and be willing to push no matter how hard it is.

The pictures I have chosen doesn’t only show girls standing together, if you look deeper into it, it shows unity, it shows girls pushing, pushing to reach the finish line and pushing to reach the end of the route, but they do this with dedication and hard work.

Our periods don’t only affect us emotionally, but it plays a massive role physically. As a young women thinking about how uncomfortable running or even excercising with a pad is, makes me wonder how some people do it with a piece of cloth or a piece of toilet paper.

If we keep on running and pushing to reach the finish line or the end of the route or even staying united as women then we can end PERIOD POVERTY. - Asemahle Vali
